Ski Cubs

Welcome to skiing! Ski cubs is a learn to ski program for kindergarten and first/second graders who want an entry to the sport of Nordic skiing. This after school program meets once per week and includes all equipment, a snack, and fun on classic skis directly from the elementary school.

Program Details

The program runs for 6 weeks in January and February, offering a fun, short season of introductory classic skiing with games and instruction. Ski Cubs is separate from Methow Valley Nordic Team practices. The Ski Cubs program makes every effort to remove barriers (transportation, ski gear, cost) to welcome any child who has an interest in trying this fun and accessible sport in our Valley. Skiers must come prepared with warm and appropriate clothing for 1.5 hours in the snow. There is a spot on the registration form to indicate any needed appropriate clothing.

Cost

FREE - thanks to funding from our annual Give Methow donors! Includes instruction, ski equipment at each session, and FUN!

Thank you to our partners Methow Valley School District, Sun Mountain Ski, Methow Valley Ski School & Rentals, Winthrop Mountain Sports, Methow Trails and Methow Cycle and Sport who make this collaboration so successful!

Times/Dates

Dates will be updated by Oct. 22, 2024.

Transportation

We expect to ski from the Elementary School every session, using the lower portions of the McCabe trails at the High School. However, bus transportation will be provided if low snow conditions require moving the sessions.

Instruction

Instruction is provided by Methow Valley Nordic coaches, instructors, and volunteers. Rachel Mozzetta, Ski Cubs director, is your main contact for all questions. Coaches will be present to greet and oversee students from the end of school until pickup.

Equipment

Skis and boots are provided for each session, compliments of Sun Mountain Ski, Methow Valley Ski School & Rentals, and Methow Cycle and Sport. (Poles are only used - and will be provided - the last two sessions).

Skiers must come prepared with warm and appropriate clothing for 1.5 hours in the snow. If you have trouble coming up with the clothing, let us know (contact information below).

Registration

Limited to thirty-two (32) 1st and 2nd graders, and twenty (20) kindergarteners.
