Adult Programs

Let Methow Valley Nordic help you improve your skiing and have more fun too! Join our experienced and skilled instructors and take your skiing to the next level. Whether you’re brand new to the sport or a seasoned glider, we offer classes and clinics will help you hone your skills to make the most of our fantastic sport.

We have two multiday camps for adults: the well-loved Sun Mountain Camp in December and the Methow Valley Nordic Members' Clinic, a smaller gathering based in Mazama.  Both are great way to kick-off your best ski season yet!  For those based in the valley through the winter, we also have a wide range of weekly classes for beginners to experts.

All classes and clinics are organized by ability level. Class sizes are small, unless mentioned otherwise - typically no more than eight - to give you plenty of personal attention.

Member’s clinic

This weekend ski clinic for adult MVN members is a great way to kick start your new year with expert instruction from some of the Valley’s finest. Two days of instruction based in Mazama offer a healthy dose of guidance and beautiful trails to practice on! One day of skating and one day of classic. Small class sizes based on ability, from beginners to advanced, lunch and snacks included. Trail passes are each skier’s responsibility and can be purchased through Methow Trails.

Cost: $235. Register here starting October 1, 2023!

Dates & Location: January 6-7, 2024, Mazama Community Club

Methow Valley Nordic offers weekly classes for a full range of abilities from beginners to advanced. Our classes fall into two main categories: those that are focused on technique development and last four or eight weeks, and our training groups - built around fitness training - that last 10 or 12 weeks.

Our eight-week technique classes and all of our training groups incorporate both classic and skate skiing. Our four-week technique classes focus on just one technique, classic or skate.

Most of our technique classes start the season on flatter terrain in Mazama. As more terrain is needed to challenge skills, classes will meet at other trailheads in the Valley.

Training groups meet at a variety of trailheads around the valley. Trail passes are each skier’s responsibility and can be purchased through Methow Trails.

These classes are one of the perks of Methow Valley Nordic membership, which is required to participate.

Skiing is a family sport at heart, but we realize it can be tough for parents to find the time to commit to improving their own skiing, whether that's sliding for the first time or sharpening your skills.

In our efforts to help parents grow their love for the sport, we offer free parents classes during Junior Team practice on six consecutive Thursdays starting in January. Sessions will alternate between skating and classic. There is no charge for these classes and parents are welcome to borrow equipment from our Ski Library.

Equipment

For our camps, clinics, and classes you will need to have classic and skate skis, boots, and poles (unless you are only doing one technique).

Good equipment makes skiing more fun!  For classic skiing, most participants use skin skis, though fish scales and waxable classic skis also work, depending on skill level and comfort with waxing. (As all MVN activities take place on groomed ski trails, metal edge skis are NOT recommended as they are better suited for off-track skiing.)

We recommend consulting with one of the many knowledgeable salespeople at our local ski shops for help finding a good setup for your objectives on the snow. There are numerous places to purchase and rent equipment in the Valley.

Methow Valley Nordic Ski Library

In 2019, Methow Valley Nordic launched the Ski Library to offer youth program skier parents the opportunity to borrow contemporary ski equipment to help them enjoy the sport as a family, and/or to participate in one of our many instructional opportunities.
